NICKY Henderson saddles odds-on favourites in both feature races at Sandown Park on Saturday with Constitution Hill in the Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle and Jonbon in the Betfair Tingle Creek Chase.
The winner of all of his seven starts under rules, Constitution Hill is 1-5 with the sponsors to extend his winning sequence in the two-mile contest. The Grade 1 event was scheduled for Newcastle last Saturday but abandoned due to bad weather and rescheduled for Sandown.
Henderson’s hand in the Fighting Fifth is enhanced by the entry of multiple Grade 1 winner Shishkin; who is effectively having his first start of the campaign after refusing to race at Ascot on his comeback.
Stablemate Jonbon is also a 1-5 shot with Betfair for the Grade 1 Tingle Creek after making a winning reappearance at Cheltenham last month. He has won 11 of 13 starts under rules, finishing second on the other two occasions.
Betfair spokesman, Barry Orr, said today [Thursday]: “Our betting suggests that the Tingle Creek is a one-horse race and in all reality the question is how short Jonbon goes off.
“He is currently 1-5 and that seems about right given his seasonal reappearance victory. Even allowing for an improved performance from Edwardstone it’s very difficult to see his turning around that Cheltenham defeat’’.
“The Fighting Fifth is a fascinating race with both Constitution Hill, now 1-5 and Shishkin, 16-1 declared.
“Hopefully, they both make it come Saturday. If they do, then the 7-1 that some Exchange ante-post punters got about Constitution Hill and 31-1 about Shishkin looks inspired risk taking’’.
“This weekend on the Betfair Sportsbook there is a completely free bet on horse racing multiples, and I’d imagine plenty of punters will be adding Jonbon and Constitution Hill, at around 4-9, into their multiple bets’’.
