Saeed bin Suroor has yet to decide the location of the final prep race for leading Investec Derby hope True Story who holds entries at York and Newmarket this week.
True Story, an impressive winner of the Listed Feilden Stakes at his last start is one of six runners declared for the Group 2 Betfred Dante Stakes at York on Thursday, where he heads the betting at 8-11.
Yet he remains in contention for the Listed Tamdown Fairway Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday as his trainer continues to decide on the best ground for the colt who will be partnered by Kieren Fallon for the first time.
“I think that True Story will be fine on good to soft ground but we wouldn’t want the going to be too soft for him,” bin Suroor said as the going at York today (Tuesday) officially continues to be described as soft.
“The forecast at York is for dry weather from Wednesday onwards and we will make a final decision about his participation nearer the time.”
True Story continues to remain prominent in the betting for the Investec Derby on June 7 where he is trading at 11-2 in the market headed by the Aidan O’Brien-trained Australia (5-4).
