Sandown Park is offering free Grandstand tickets to the first 2,000 online bookers for the Experience Sandown Raceday evening meeting on Thursday, May 21.

The racecourse, which is located in Esher and a quick train journey from London Waterloo, host a six race card with the first race set to go off at 5.55pm and the finale scheduled for 8.35pm.

Last month Sandown hosted the bet365 Jump Finale at Sandown Park where Tony McCoy retired from race-riding and was presented with his 20th jockeys’ championship title by Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

The 40-year-old set the standard throughout a sublime career that included becoming the first jockey to ride 3,000 and then 4,000 winners. A brace of Cheltenham Gold Cup winners and a Grand National were amongst those victories.

McCoy, who believes that his greatest achievement was in the 2001/02 season when he rode 289 winners to surpass Sir Gordon Richards’ long-standing British record of 269 winners, said he was surprised by the reception of the capacity crowd at Sandown.

“I feel like I’ve lived the dream, I couldn’t have wished to have done more with my life,” McCoy said. “I like sports, all of them, but I wouldn’t change being a jump jockey for any of those. The adrenaline rush, the people you meet and the whole sport in general – I’ve been so blessed. I just wish I could go back and do it all again.

“I didn’t anticipate this reception. Thanks to Sandown for accommodating me and making the day as special as it was, I’ve been touched by it all.”
