TIGER ROLL targets a record third successive win in the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree on April 4 where he heads 105 entries.
Gordon Elliott’s charge completed an exceptional double in 2019 when he became the first horse since Red Rum to win back to back Grand Nationals.
Tiger Roll now attempts to make history by securing a successive hat-trick of victories in this year’s 173rd running of the Grand National and equal the long-standing record of Red Rum who won the national in 1973, 1974 and 1977 and finished second in 1975 and 1976.
The 10-year-old is one of 18 entries for Elliott who targets his fourth win in the world’s greatest steeplechase after the victory of Silver Birch in 2007 and Tiger Roll’s double.
“You don’t really realise how much the horse means to everyone” Elliott said to thejockeyclub.co.uk. “You see all the kids and all the different people who came to the yard.
“You don’t really appreciate it when you’re in the bubble yourself. You don’t realise how much of a thing there is about this horse, you know? It’s only after when you sit back and you watch the videos and read all the paper clippings, people have really got to like him.
“You know, he’s got a great name, Tiger Roll, and he’s got a great heart. He’s obviously won at four Cheltenham Festivals and to win two Randox Health Grand Nationals has been unbelievable.
“Everyone who comes into the yard, there’s only one horse they want to see and that’s Tiger Roll. He’s a people’s horse now and we’re very lucky to have him.
“Red Rum was before my time but you’ve seen the videos and heard all about him. He was an amazing horse and to be in the same league as him is unbelievable.”
Owned by Michael O’Leary’s Gigginstown House Stud, Tiger Roll is reported to be likely to start his campaign in either the Grade 2 Boyne Hurdle at Navan on February 16 or the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival on March 16.
Tiger Roll is 7-1 favourite (Betway) for the 2020 Grand National which carries prize money of £1 million.
