LOWER-weighted runners may be the answer when selecting the winner of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe which has attracted a maximum field of 20 at Longchamp on Sunday.

Mares are weighted at 9st 2lbs, 3lbs less than the 9st 5lbs allotted to their four-years-old and older male rivals. Three-year-olds carry 8st 13lbs, a whopping 6lbs reduction.

This weight allowance and predicted soft ground point towards the Aidan O’Brien-trained Luxembourg, who is taken to land Europe’s late season showpiece.

Luxembourg’s two Group 1 wins have come on the soft ground forecast for Sunday and he is fancied to best the multiple Group 1 winning mare Alpinista and French Derby and Coral Eclipse winner Vadeni.
