Holiday Magic’s victory at Kempton on Monday was William Buick’s first for Godolphin since the shock announcement that he is to become first jockey for Charlie Appleby.

Godolphin revealed on Sunday that they had signed Buick, stable jockey to John Gosden for the past four seasons; and also James Doyle, the retained rider for Khalid Abdullah who will leave his current role to become first rider for Saeed bin Suroor.

The new contracts allow both jockeys to interlink between the two Godolphin yards and come into effect after they have fulfilled their current contracts.

Buick was quick to strike for soon-to-be boss Appleby when winning on Holiday Magic who secured his third successive victory at the Middlesex track when he landed the seven furlong Class 4.

The one and a quarter length victory was the first of two winners on the day for Buick who also won on debutante Mahsoob for Gosden. The jockey was quick to pay tribute to Gosden, who he has ridden for since 2010, and has provided him with a host of high-profile wins that includes the St Leger with Arctic Cosmos and Masked Marvel, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes with Nathaniel and Prince Of Wales’s Stakes with The Fugue.

“It has been a highlight since the day I walked into the yard,” Buick said. “It was a learning curve and we had some great times together and some great horses and we had success together at the top level and I hope that it continues.

Buick and Doyle’s first contractual role to Godolphin will be to ride for their respective yards throughout the Dubai Carnival in 2015 and the 26-year-old admits that he is excited about the future.

“I am just looking forward to getting started really,” Buick continued. “I will be working with great people and it is a fantastic team and I am really excited about it.”

The news of the new riding arrangements has delighted Appleby: “I honestly could not be happier because I will now be able to use two of the best jockeys in the world,” he said.

“William has global experience at the highest level and worked very closely with me this season. We have already had Group 1 success with Charming Thought in the Middle Park Stakes and having James to call on as well is a massive bonus,” he revealed on the Godolphin website.

Saeed bin Suroor added: “This is a great arrangement. I have already had success with both James and William. James has ridden Group horses for me this year and has proved himself on a world stage and I will also have access to William which is terrific.”

Doyle, who was not riding at Kempton, also used the Godolphin site to express his gratitude to his former employers and his high hopes for the future.

“I have had a wonderful season riding for Juddmonte and Prince Khalid during which I was fortunate to ride the best horse of my career so far in Kingman,” he said.

“Noble Mission was another great racehorse produced by Juddmonte that helped bring my career forward. I shall always be eternally grateful for that one year contract which leaves me with great memories.

“Now I look forward to sharing riding duties with William at Godolphin and continuing to achieve great things in the world of horse racing.”
