Colin Tizzard has confirmed that Cue Card will go for the £1-million Chase Triple Crown if he wins the William Hill King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day.
The nine-year-old impressed when storming to victory in the Grade 1 Betfair Chase at Haydock Park where he brushed aside his rivals to score by seven lengths from 2012 and 2014 winner Silviniaco Conti.
Cue Card won the Betfair Chase in 2013 before he was side-lined due to injury and wind problems but looked back to his best when landing the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on his comeback.
The Betfair Chase is the first leg of the £1-million Chase Triple Crown – which incorporates the William Hill King George VI Chase and Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup – and Tizzard believes Kempton is the perfect track for his stable star.
“If we win the King George, we’ll go for the Gold Cup which is what we’ve always wanted to do,” Tizzard said at his stables in Dorset on Wednesday.
“First and foremost, I’d just love to win a King George with him, he’s been a damn good horse for four or five years now and he deserves it, he’s a classy, brilliant horse.
“With his speed and stamina, [Kempton] will be the ideal track for him.”
Steve Parlett, general manager of Kempton Park, added: “Cue Card is the horse with the £1m opportunity.
“To win the Betfair Chase, William Hill King George and Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup you have to beat all the best chasers along the way, so it’d be a feat deserving of both the bonus and a place in the history books.”
