A customer in Paddy Power’s betting shop on the Kings Road bagged £1,342,599 as one of eight individual winners of the massive Scoop6 pot that was won on Saturday.
The Scoop6 offers punters the chance to win huge sums for a £2.00 stake from six televised races on Saturdays. The pot rolls over to the next week if it is not won. It had attracted a huge following in recent weeks as the prize money continued to grow.
The winner, a London-based credit controller who hails from Dundee, has requested anonymity and admitted he thought he had lost when he checked the results and saw that one of his selections – March in the 3.10pm race at Haydock – was not in the first three. But as March was a non-runner, his bet went on to winning favourite Joyeuse.
“I checked the results and when March wasn’t in the frame thought, ‘Oh well that’s that,’” he said after the Alan King-trained Chatez had won the sixth and last leg in the hands of Fergus Sweeney.
“I don’t know why, but just before I binned the ticket I thought I’d check the non-runners just in case and I’m glad I did!”
The Kings Road punter now has the chance to go for an additional bonus fund of £5,481,763 on next Saturday’s selected race.
